Richard to review blogger's libel investigation
6/26/2012
Bernard Richard is keeping busy in his retirement. The province's former ombudsman will oversee an independent external review of the Fredericton police force's handling of the Charles LeBlanc criminal libel investigation. LeBlanc -- a controversial blogger -- has been a vocal critic of police, and questions were raised about the force's motivation when he was arrested for libel in January; the justice department later said it could not support laying the charge over comments LeBlanc allegedly made online about a city police officer. Richard is to review all aspects of the police force's conduct concerning the investigation, and make any recommendations he deems appropriate.
