Nursing Home Association to offer elder abuse prevention education

The federal government is spending $350,000 to combat elder abuse in the province. The money will go to the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes in Fredericton for a project to educate nursing home employees and seniors on what elder abuse is and how it can be prevented.
Jodi Hall (pictured left) is the association's director of operations. She says the overall goal is to raise awareness. Hall says folks living in long term care facilities can be especially vulnerable as they tend to be older, more frail, and have more complex needs. She adds those involved in their care have an important role to play in preventing, recognizing, and reporting elder abuse. Hall notes cases of elder abuse are often unreported.
Fredericton MP Keith Ashfield made the funding announcement Wednesday morning in Fredericton.
