Talented artists Carol Collicutt and Melanie Mitchell are going to be sharing studio space in the Soldiers’ Barracks from August 11 to 17 as part of the Artists in Residence program. Collicutt, who has been a professional artist for over 30 years, will recycle and repurpose old artwork by cutting it apart and building complex collages. Mitchell, a fibre artist who enjoys exploring colour and texture in her work, will create distinctive pieces of wearable art by manipulating fabrics and using a live model for fittings.
The Artists in Residence program, organized by the Fredericton Arts Alliance and supported by the N.B. Department of Culture, Tourism and Healthy Living as well as Isaac’s Way and St. Thomas University, offers artists the chance to share a studio for a week at a time during the summer months. The goal is to support and promote local artists while allowing visitors to see and learn about the art making process. The studio is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sunday noon to 5 p.m.).
