Sarah Petite and Philip Hall will share a studio in the Soldiers’ Barracks as part of this summer’s Artists in Residence program between August 18 and 24. Petite will dedicate her time to a series she calls, ‘Game Theory,’ where she uses encaustic paint and strips board games down to a point where they become abstract works of art. Hall, meanwhile, will continue the work of earlier Artist in Residence, Ashley Sheard, and finish the illustration of their children’s book using watercolours, inks, design software, and printers.
The Artists in Residence program is organized by the Fredericton Arts Alliance and is supported by the N.B. Department of Culture, Tourism and Healthy Living as well as Isaac's Way, St. Thomas University, and the UNB Art Centre. The program gives two artists the opportunity to share a studio for a week at a time during the summer months. The goal is to support and promote local artists while allowing visitors to see and learn about the art making process. The studio is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sunday noon to 5 p.m.).
