While he hasn't won fame comparable to other British folk-rockers like
Billy Bragg or
Luka Bloom,
White has made his mark with wry humor and a unique lyrical approach. This compilation covers some of his best work to date; there are quite a few fine songs here.
White tackles religion, his Irish heritage, and matters of the heart with a nice, poetic sensibility. What his voice lacks in sweetness it makes up for in character, which is well suited to his songs.
