Doo Wop Delights is a cornucopia of early
Vibrations recordings, beginning with "So Blue," a 1960 release on Bet Records, and continuing through their
Marathons sides and 1960-1963 releases on Checker Records. Later recordings on Okeh, Neptune, etc., didn't make this one, nor did the group's debut
Jayhawks platters from 1956 to 1957. The 31 tracks showcase them at their energetic best. They redo "Stranded in the Jungle," a song they first did as
the Jayhawks on Flash Records, and liven up the party with a slew of dance songs: "Watusi," "Let's Pony Again," "New Hully Gully," "Doin' the Slop," "Dancin' Danny," and "Peanut Butter" (recorded as
the Marathons). The multi-talented Los Angeles natives croon deliciously on "Over the Rainbow," "Since I Fell for You," and "Time After Time."
The Vibrations hung tough for a long time. They had a handful of sporadic hits but few real chart-busters despite recording exciting music. This CD will start new fans off on the right foot and will bring back fond memories to those who remember these songs from the early '60s.
